what is this?
tacobout.online is a personal magazine, a tumblog, and an ongoing experiment in shouting into the digital void. While it is technically a group blog, it is mostly just me, Schwegler, posting whatever crosses my mind. Any of my friends might pop up for a post or 12, tho.
Expect a chaotic mix of absurdist internet culture, intense deep dives into professional wrestling storylines, Big Brother takes, music finds, politics, British soap opera updates, and random, unusual science discoveries.
the tech under the hood
Because I have over a decade of software engineering experience and apparently don’t know how to leave work at work, I decided to build a custom, open-source WordPress theme specifically for this site.
You can find the entire project repository over on GitHub: schwegler/tacobout.online.
key features of the theme:
- Post Format-Aware Feed: The site automatically adjusts based on what’s posted. Video posts embed cleanly, status updates show up as inline text, and standard posts get the traditional excerpt treatment.
- Bento Box Magazine Grid: A responsive layout featuring a glassmorphic sticky header and staggered fade-in animations.
- Built for the Fediverse: Deep integration with Bluesky/ATProto and Mastodon/ActivityPub via standard plugins, ensuring everything federates seamlessly.
- Aggressive Dark Mode: Automatic activation via
prefers-color-scheme, because toggles are overrated.
where else to find schweg:
When I am not tweaking T-SQL scripts or refactoring this theme’s architecture, you can usually find me hanging out with my two cats (Rose and Violet), playing games on my Steam Deck, or venting about tech and daily life across the decentralized web.
